April Showers…

April 12, 2010

When setting the mood for a romantic encounter with your loved one, you want to make sure that you look and feel your best, of course. You can always buy sexy lingerie or fancy sheets to enhance your boudoir experience, but you can also take the cheaper route and make yourself the highlight of the evening. Give yourself (and your guy) the special treat of super soft and great smelling skin. Take a little extra time in the shower to exfoliate and hydrate your skin and you will look and feel radiant, and as a bonus your guy will not be able to keep his hands off you.

To start, you will want to buy a few things to have on hand for your exfoliating extravaganza. Here are a few products that you will need for this.

- an exfoliating mitt or glove, or a loofah, or body brush

shower1
from Bath & Body Works

- a pumice stone

shower2
from The Body Shop

- exfoliating cleanser or scrub

shower3
from The Body Shop

- a shower gel or body wash

shower4
from The Body Shop

- body lotion or body butter

shower5
from The Body Shop

After gathering your supplies, read an article on exfoliating, such as one of these:

Get Smooth Glowing Skin from SheKnows.com

How to Exfoliate Dry Skin from eHow.com

How to Exfoliate your Body for Soft Skin from wikiHow.com (this one has a helpful video!)

After you have completed your shower and your exfoliating, you will be ready to wow your man with your super soft, totally touchable skin. And you will feel totally refreshed and amazing!

In Like a Lion…Out Like a Lamb

March 8, 2010

For this month’s 5 Senses Set the Mood piece, I have decided to embrace the old adage about March’s weather, “It comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.” So for this month’s boudoir inspiration, get ready to embrace your fierce side and your gentle side all at once.

The Sense of Sight

lionlamb1lionlamb2

Since we are embracing our fierceness this month, why not start as a little lion tamer? This first outfit is courtesy of Trashy.com Lingerie. This outfit is sure to keep your guy’s eyes strictly on you…or else! To increase your ferociousness, definitely add the riding crop accessory and the top hat, to make it known that you are the Queen of the bedroom.

To contrast, of course, this second outfit will definitely show off your calm and gentle side when you are looking for something less edgy and more soft. When trying to convey your soft side, you can never go wrong with white, soft pink accents, and lots of eyelet lace. Nothing is more feminine than Trashy.com‘s Lolita Collection, which this outfit is a part of.

The Sense of Smell

lionlamb3 lionlamb4

The sense of smell is very powerful and playing it up can definitely be helpful when you are trying to set any kind of mood. For this fierce/gentle combination this month, you may want to give your guy a little treat with the Fierce cologne from Abercrombie & Fitch. With it’s mix of citrus and musk scents, this is sure to meet the criteria for a fiery scent.

For yourself, you may want to try something soft and lightly fruit scented, such as Pearberry from Bath & Body Works. This is a delightful mix of pears and berries that will present a soft and sensual scent to complement your ultra-feminine look.

The Sense of Taste

Remember, setting the mood for a special evening with your significant other does not have to begin and end with the bedroom. You can very easily set the mood all day long for a special night. For this particular mood, begin with a steak dinner made at home for your loved one. This is something that the two of you can do together to work on setting the mood. Cooking together can be a very sensual experience, if you are open to it. So pop open a bottle of your favorite wine and get cooking!

lionlamb5

For dessert, think of something like and airy, like meringues. These are easy to make and as light as air. These are even a little sweet goodness that you and your sweetie could feed to one another since they are bite size. Here is a recipe for “Meringue Smooches” on FoodNetwork.com. How romantic do those sound?

The Sense of Hearing

When you are searching for music that might enhance your mood, for this particular combination, you may want to start out with some of your favorite rock songs. Something that gets your blood pumping, something that brings out your inner fierceness.

On the softer side of this you may want to embrace your inner lamb and look for something more sensual and romantic. Something light and easy to listen to in the background. Here are a few ideas…

Angel by Sarah Mclachlan
Here with Me by Dido
Only Time by Enya
Melting by Tristan Prettyman

The Sense of Touch

For the sense of touch you want something bold, maybe try one of these accessories if you are looking for something playful. Even if you have no intention of using it, your guy will likely be impressed (and a little intimidated) when you present it to him.

If that is too bold a statement, you can always find another way to bring fierce into the touch portion of your mood-setting. Leather sheets might bring just the right amount of a bold sensation to your boudoir.

Between the Sheets: The Home of Exotic Bedding

Of course, don’t neglect the more delicate side to this experience. Anything extra fluffy and comfortable will easily portray the gentle, soft lamb-like side of this equation. However, the Heavenly Bed by Westin definitely lives up to its name. This bed and bedding combine to create the most comfortable sleeping environment. It is truly cloud-like. You can purchase the bed and the bedding from Nordstrom.

Happy March to you all! As always, feel free to share your own ideas and inspirations here in the comments. I hope many of you have some fierce boudoir experiences, as well as a few sweet and delicate ones too.

Fantasy Play…No, We Don’t Mean D&D

March 1, 2010

One of the hardest to maintain standards we have created for ourselves as a society is the standard of monogamy. Glancing around the animal kingdom, we find ourselves in good but sparse company.  Aside from a few otters and penguins walking by, it’s a lonely road, and it isn’t made any easier by our biology.  Men are hard-wired to spread their seed, and women are searching for opportunities to get the best genetic buck for their bang. So how do we acknowledge this fact without taking for granted the loyalty and affection of a partner?  The following tips may help you to keep the spice in your life without fostering insecurity or infidelity.

iStock 000008304846XSmall Fantasy Play...No, We Dont Mean D&D

1. Flirt (Because Committed doesn’t mean Dead)- Chances are when you go out with the girls, chat with coworkers, or even stand in line at the grocery store, you don’t leave your allure behind.  It’s perfectly natural to flex your flirty muscles when engaging the opposite sex, and this attention does a great deal to keep your confidence running on high.  You can shoot coy looks to a cute guy at the gym without hurdling your treadmill and jumping the free weights to make contact with him.  Trust that your partner has the same restraint, and let them know that you don’t expect his hormones to shut down every time you leave the room.

2. Fantasize (Because we’re all Every Woman)- My boyfriend recently made a comment about a woman on TV.  My immediate reaction was that I looked nothing like her, and it threw me off guard.  My mind jumped to an insecure place, and I wondered if I was really what he wanted.  After a moment’s consideration, however, I realized that my very handsome guy is a far cry from my own celebrity crushes.  This only proves that we are both alert, sexual beings, and it opens the door for some very steamy nights.  If you find your mind wandering, let your lover know.  Ask him to assume the role, and play groupie to his inner Jagger.  If his mind is stuck on Megan Fox, get garage inspiration, and try out for the part of sexy mechanic.  (You can even think of some fun ways to use those oil rags.)

3. Face Yourself (Because you are Number One)- Fantasies are fun, but your relationship is reality, and you are the sex kitten behind it all.  A sexy photo shoot, a special night out, or a new nightgown can be just enough to remind your man of a side of you he hasn’t seen in a while.  You’re probably what he’s picturing when he has bedroom on the brain, so be confident in the fact that you are worth a fantasy or two. Try wearing your glasses instead of contacts or put your hair up when you usually wear it down.  Call him when he isn’t expecting it and let him know that you’re thinking about tonight.  You may find that he can hardly wait to get you home.

Pole Dancing Tips

February 22, 2010
For a couple years now, we have been hearing about the fit and sexy trend of pole dancing! The art of pole dancing was once taboo and reserved for the shadier sides of town. Now you see gyms featuring this style of dance as a workout- an effective one at that! Because of this woman have the confidence, and the skills, to use this for the bedroom.
hands on pole
The popular “striptease” for your lover has kicked it up a notch by bringing in an eight foot brass rod as an accessory. It is not expected to swing upside down and perform some sort of double loop on the pole the very first time you try it. There are plenty of ways to make the pole look sexy by staying on the ground- struts and hip rolls will do just fine.
Pole Dance For Your Man
After having some experiences with pole fitness classes and some fun with it of course, I willingly share some easy tips for conducting your very own dance pleaser.
  1. Pick a song you both will enjoy! Choose something in the genre you both listen to whether it be pop, rock, hip-hop, etc. Then think of the kind of tone you want to set for your sexy night in. If you’re going romantic, try something like Christina Aguilera’s “Nasty Naughty Boy.” You can take the opposite approach and rock it out with “Crazy bitch” by Buckcherry.
  2. Reveal something! Keep the attention of your audience by having a reveal. Wear a man’s work shirt, then take it off to show your sexy little attire underneath.
  3. Have some fun! The most important thing to remember is to have some fun with it. Don’t take it too seriously if you miss a step- your partner won’t know if you don’t tell. Trust me, they are paying attention to other things…

If you are feeling a little weary about your moves, check out Xpose Fitness (www.xposefitness.com). The instructors are willing to give you help and your local Xpose has a full class schedule and the opportunity to rent a pole for your pole dancing weekend.

Words of Love

February 15, 2010

Officially, Valentine’s Day is over, but you can (and should!) still celebrate your love and relationship each day with your valentine in some way. Today we are going to share some ways to express your love and admiration through words.

Giving a poem to your loved one is a wonderful way to share your thoughts and sentiments any day of the year. However, some of us are not so crafty with the words, but do not fear, you can always borrow from someone else. Just think of it like this…you know when you are looking for a greeting card to give or send and you find the perfect card with the perfect words? A borrowed poem can serve the exact same purpose.

Here are a few classic love poems to get your started.

Sonnet XVII by Pablo Neruda

I don’t love you as if you were the salt-rose, topaz
or arrow of carnations that propagate fire:
I love you as certain dark things are loved,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that doesn’t bloom and carries
hidden within itself the light of those flowers,
and thanks to your love, darkly in my body
lives the dense fragrance that rises from the earth.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you simply, without problems or pride:
I love you in this way because I don’t know any other way of loving

but this, in which there is no I or you,
so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand,
so intimate that when I fall asleep it is your eyes that close.

To My Dear Loving Husband by Anne Bradstreet

If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were loved by wife, then thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me, ye woman, if you can.
I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold
Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought but love from thee, give recompense.
Thy love is such I can no way repay,
the heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.
The while we live, in love let’s so persevere,
That when we live no more, we may live ever.

How Do I Love Thee? by Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,–I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!–and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

A Complete Chocolate Experience

February 8, 2010

Often when you are trying to set the mood, any mood, you want to entice all five of the senses. When getting ready for Valentine’s Day and preparing to set the mood for your holiday plans, chocolate is probably the first thing that comes to mind. Chocolate seems to be the go-to gift for Valentine’s Day, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, we are going to take it one step further…this is an entire sensual feast of chocolate to make your Valentine’s Day celebration all the sugar and spice you could ever want.

The Sense of Smell

Nothing beats the smell of chocolate, and for some, the scent of chocolate is all you need to jump-start your energy level and make you happy. Here are a few products you might find helpful when trying to hone in on the aroma of chocolate. (click on the image to get product details)

The Sense of Touch

It is easy to create a chocolate feel in your boudoir. Think of the feel of chocolate..soft, silky, smooth…these are some of the textures you want to incorporate into your chocolate experience.

These sheets would be a good place to start for creating a soft and sensual environment in your bedroom.

You may also want to cover yourself, and your sweetie, in something soft and silky. Something like these pj’s may be just the thing you need to enhance the sense of touch in this whole experience.

The Sense of Taste

This may be the most obvious area of this whole experience. But I challenge you to think of a new way to incorporate the sense of taste into this adventure. Try to think beyond the heart-shaped box of chocolate truffles or bag of chocolate kisses.

Perhaps a little chocolate body paint is just the right amount of spice you need to have some fun with your loved one.

Sensual Massage Techniques – Part 2

February 1, 2010

This post is a continuation from special guest Jill Sanchioni of Pure Spirit Potions.  Jill is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Aromatherapist and Yoga Teacher. This second part in the two part series focuses on massage techniques that you can share with your loved one.  The first post, Sensual Massage Part 1, focused on preparing for your sensual encounter.  We will be giving away a free ritual oil from Pure Spirit Potions.  See the bottom of the post for details.

So you’ve found the time, made the plans, oils are warming, the room is ready..but are you?  You may think you don’t know how to give a massage, especially a Sensual Massage your partner will love and remember.  But with just a few practiced techniques you can wow yourself and your Valentine!  Always take a moment before beginning a massage to ground yourself.  This is done by just sitting and consciously taking a few deep, long and full breaths.  Many of us take the simple act of breathing for granted, not knowing how this natural and usually unconscious act can transform our well being, mood and health.   Begin by placing your hand on your stomach, close your eyes and start to slowly breathe into your abdomen filling it under your hand, allow your belly to expand and grow.  Then let your breathe fill your chest and collarbone.  Exhale the breathe slowly out finishing with emptying the belly, letting your navel press out any left over breathe..Repeat two to three more times until you notice a calm and peaceful feeling.  Now you are ready to start the fun part.

Take a deep breath

Invite your partner into the Bedroom or place you have chosen for this special event.  If you are going to be working on the full body have them lay down in the designated area.  If you are only going to be doing maybe feet and shoulders (which is a great way to introduce this technique if the full body is not something you are ready for yet) have them sit or lounge comfortably.  Always be sure the receiver is warm, comfortable and ask if they need anything.  To prepare you both you can take a few grounding breathes either facing each other which increases intimacy, or your partner can lay face down with your hands firmly on their back and ask them to take a few deep breathes with you.

Sensual Massage

Now you can undrape the back to your level of comfort.  Leaving the backside and legs covered at this point with a towel.  Cover your hands in the warm oil and apply from the shoulders down the back in long, slow, sweeping motions.  If they are on a bed you can stand in front of the head and neck.  If they are on the floor, just kneel in front being careful of your back.  The key to keeping the massage sensual is keeping your strokes slow, long and firm.  By keeping your pattern slow your partner can feel each area more effectively.  You can also choose to leave a little mystery, going a bit slower and further down the back on each pass. Make the massage a fun learning experience for you to gain insight on what makes your partner feel good.  When you reach those spots, take note.  Come back to those areas, linger, use your hands, forearms and elbows to play but be sure to keep your focus and remember better to give a little less and leave them wanting a bit more.  Once you’ve covered the back begin to work down just a bit lower.  The hips, just below the back and right above the butt is a place of tension and stress but also contains many nerves that send feelings of relief and pleasure when worked just right.  Pay some attention here, begin to relax their hips in the back and if your feeling risky allow your hands to work the sides of the hips as well, not quite to the gluts yet..mystery remember.  Now leave the back (wanting a bit  more, we will get back to it) and move on to the legs.  Uncover them if the towel is still on.  Leave the towel covering only the butt now.  Using the same long, slow firm strokes begin to apply warm oil to the backs of legs and feet.  I like to to do one leg at a time, again so you can be focused and your partner gets to feel more.  You can sit behind one leg placing the backside of your partners foot and shin on your lap.  Start by squeezing the feet, relieving tension all over the body through the powers of Reflexology.  So if you are not giving a full body massage tonight thats alright. By giving an amazing foot massage you will release stress, tension and positive feelings through your partners entire body just through their feet. Squeeze and hold in three or four spots from the heel to the balls of the feet.  By holding for a few moments you will give their body and mind a chance to feel what’s going on and let go.  Rub and gently pull on each toe.  Squeeze through the ankle and begin in the calf.  Be sure you check in with them that the pressure is comfortable.  Continue slow strokes, mixing long flowing ones with holding squeezes.  Little by little move higher up the back of the leg, finding the usually tight hamstrings.  Allow you forearms to work here, running them slowly up and down the backs of the thighs.  I can’t stress enough the slowness, especially through the deep muscles of the legs.  Let you forearms and elbows creep up towards the hips again.  Now finding the bottom part of the hips where the thigh meet the gluts.  If you and your partner are comfortable you can uncover the side of the hips and gluts at this point.  Use your arms and knuckles to carefully press into this area.  There are lots of deep muscles and nerves through out the gluts and you can bring a lot of relief and pleasure paying attention here.  Once that leg is relaxed and happy, you can repeat the same process on the next leg.  Now your partners entire backside should be relaxed and covered in oils.  For one more lasting move, begin at the feet placing one hand on the back of each foot.  Start to slowly move your hands up the back of your partners calves, then thighs.  Move carefully along the sides of the hips and butt and up the back again.  You should now be sitting on the towel (and your partners butt).  Place your hands on their low back and begin to massage up to their shoulders and neck for a final once over.  Let your body get in on the action by using it as a massage tool. Have fun here and use you imagination.  But hold back a little, remember you have the whole front side to do.  When the backside is complete, recover with the towel and have them turn over.

Sensual Massage Back

With your partner face up you can choose to either cover their eyes with an eye pillow, scarf or ..blindfold.  Or leave them uncovered, the choice is yours.  As things may have gotten heated working the backside, we’re going to slow things down now on the front. Start with the hands and arms.  Apply your Aromatherapy Oil of choice to the first whole arm and hand.  Start squeezing hand, wrist and fingers giving gentle traction on each finger.  Squeeze and hold a few places on the palms of the hand to relieve deep tension.  Move up through the arm with the same slow, long strokes as before.  Using more of your hands for the work now.  Once the whole arm is relaxed wrap both hands around your partners upper arm and give firm, rhythmic compressions from the top of the arm down to the wrist.  Repeat on the other arm.  Move to the head of you partner and begin to massage the shoulders, neck and scalp. You can use your knuckles into the shoulder for firm pressure.  You will feel the tension in the shoulders so just notice those area and try to use your body to compress and hold to help your partner let go.  The scalp is not only soothing but can also be very pleasure inducing.  Be sure to pay special attention while working the scalp.  Grasp and compress the whole head a few times and then use your fingers to attentively work the around the sides, crown and back of the head.  A gentle pull of traction for the neck and you are ready for more fun.  Undrape your partners legs.  Allowing the towel to cover only the most intimate of parts.  As we did with the back of the legs begin with one at a time. Apply warm oil slowly from foot to thigh.  Allow your hands to linger by the sides of the hips before returning back to the foot to begin.  As you have practiced already slow and controlled sweeping motions flowing up the shin, and leisurely making their way to the thigh.  The legs offer a great area for sensual massage. Many large muscles and nerves that are tense and ready to be released make your job more rewarding than you may think.  Stay on the thigh for a little while, allowing your strokes to linger and lead you to the inner and outer thigh.  Remember to keep yourself present in the moment and your partner will also stay present. Then following up towards the hips once again, use your forearms or knuckles to compress and release.  Finish with one long stroke from foot to hip, and then repeat on the other leg.  One last finishing move and your gift is complete.  As on the back side place one hand on each foot, slowly move your hands up each leg, purposefully working onto and around the hips and now seated once again massage your partners chest. To what ever level is comfortable to you both.  Once again allow your body to be the massage tool and have fun!  The rest is up to you.  Happy Valentines day!

Be Remembered This Valentines Day – Sensual Massage Part 1

January 25, 2010

This week’s post is from special guest Jill Sanchioni of Pure Spirit Potions. Jill is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Aromatherapist and Yoga Teacher. She has been my massage therapist for the last 7 years and I can personally attest to the stress knock out power of her two-punch combination of aromatherapy and massage techniques. This post is presented in two parts. Part 1 (today) focuses on preparing and getting ready for a sensual massage for your partner. The second part will be posted next Monday, February 1st and will focus on the actual massage techniques.

We are all trying to find that new, exciting and less expensive way to have a great night with our partner. And with Valentines Day right around the corner it would be nice to do something different, personal and loving (without spending a fortune). What about a gift truly from you; from your own hands. The power you possess in your hands can be used for many healing, nurturing and passionate endeavors. Are you ready to put your hands and yourself to the test? By learning and practicing just a few techniques you can be ready in no time to give the gift of an amazing and personal Sensual Massage…a gift that will be remembered!

Sensual Massage

First take a few moments to consider where and when. You’ll want a private, quiet place with either a clean and comfortable floor (you can use carpeted area or blankets to your comfort), bed or most preferably massage table. The Bedroom is the perfect room for a Sensual Massage but if that doesn’t work for you, find an area that is secluded. If you are not completely alone in your home be sure you’re in a real room with a lock so that you won’t have to worry about your privacy. It’s also nice to have music available, either a portable sound system or a room that supports yours or your partners favorite music. Good lighting is also important. A room with a dimmer or lower lights is ideal. Candles are also a nice touch. Pick a time that is convenient for you both so you can relax. Maybe not right after work or during a time when your mind may be on other things. Try to plan a day and time even if the gift is a surprise.
massage oil
Now prepare a few things just prior to your scheduled time. Find a high quality, preferably natural oil for your massage. Including Aromatherapy is a way to increase many senses as well as inducing feelings of passion, love or whatever you like. If you’re looking for a pure essential oil blend to increase the warmth between you and open up your hearts try ‘Be Loved’ by ‘Pure Spirit Potions’. Designed to increase positive emotions, feelings of happiness and romance using the oils of Rose, Sandalwood, Blood Orange and Vanilla. All while bathing your skin with Organic Oils of Extra Virgin Coconut, Jojoba and Sesame. You will both smell and feel uplifted, soft and sensual. Want to be a Desired? Of course you do! Another great Body and Bathing Oil also from ‘Pure Spirit’, ‘Be Desired’ is an Organic Infused Herbal Oil with two powerful Aphrodisiacs. Jasmine to increase optimism and euphoria and Damiana, used in Mayan culture to focus sexual energy. All in a blend of Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. If you don’t have any Aromatherapy don’t worry a great substitute many of us all have at home is Olive Oil. Yes, regular Olive Oil is a soothing, sensitive oil that is used by many body workers and naturalists. I recommend using Organic or at least all natural oils whenever possible on the body. Whichever you choose put about an ounce or two in a heat proof bowl and gently warm it up. You can use the microwave but be careful to do it in small stages so that you don’t make it too hot and evaporate the great smelling oils. When you’ve decided where you will do the massage lay out a few towels or sheets to keep the oil away from any upholstery or bedspread. Be sure you are in comfortable (and if you choose, little) clothes. Having a bathrobe and extra towel available for the receiver is a thoughtful touch.

I promised that we would be back this week with our favorite picks for romantic movies. I like to think that our list is very well rounded. For the most part, our list is pretty conventional, and features pretty typical movies of romantic quality. I am sure that some of you ladies, and men, have seen most of these movies, and if you haven’t, grab your favorite movie buddy and settle in for a romantic evening.

Guy-Friendly Romantic Movies

January 11, 2010

Today we are going to highlight one of the easiest ways to get into a romantic mood. Movies. I know that, personally, a good movie can usually take me away from anything that is going on in my own life and transform my mood. I would like to think that most people are the same way, otherwise, I don’t know how the movie industry would survive! I also know that I am probably not alone among women out there in that I love a feel good movie that leaves me feeling in love and all warm and fuzzy…”the chick flick” as it is affectionately referred to.

Now girls, we all have our favorite so-called “chick flicks” that we would love our men to sit and swoon over with us. But sometimes your guy may need a break from the overly romantic, dramatic, love-filled films that make you melt into a weepy puddle on your couch. So I came across this list of guy-friendly movies that are romantic in their own right, but tread a little more lightly on the tear-jerker, sentimental ideal of romance.

You can check out this list of 16 Romantic Movies that a Guy Won’t Hate.

To enjoy a quiet night in with your man, grab one of these movies, make a big bowl of popcorn to share, grab a blanket to cozy up under together, turn down the lights and enjoy the movie. After the movie, stay snuggled up and talk about the memories the two of you have together. If you just watched one of the comedies on this list, talk about some of the funniest things that have happened to the two of you. The most important thing is that you are spending time together focusing on happy and romantic feelings, and sharing them together.

Next Monday, we will feature our list of favorite romantic movies. I can’t wait to get started on that!
