April Showers…

April 12, 2010

When setting the mood for a romantic encounter with your loved one, you want to make sure that you look and feel your best, of course. You can always buy sexy lingerie or fancy sheets to enhance your boudoir experience, but you can also take the cheaper route and make yourself the highlight of the evening. Give yourself (and your guy) the special treat of super soft and great smelling skin. Take a little extra time in the shower to exfoliate and hydrate your skin and you will look and feel radiant, and as a bonus your guy will not be able to keep his hands off you.

To start, you will want to buy a few things to have on hand for your exfoliating extravaganza. Here are a few products that you will need for this.

- an exfoliating mitt or glove, or a loofah, or body brush

shower1
from Bath & Body Works

- a pumice stone

shower2
from The Body Shop

- exfoliating cleanser or scrub

shower3
from The Body Shop

- a shower gel or body wash

shower4
from The Body Shop

- body lotion or body butter

shower5
from The Body Shop

After gathering your supplies, read an article on exfoliating, such as one of these:

Get Smooth Glowing Skin from SheKnows.com

How to Exfoliate Dry Skin from eHow.com

How to Exfoliate your Body for Soft Skin from wikiHow.com (this one has a helpful video!)

After you have completed your shower and your exfoliating, you will be ready to wow your man with your super soft, totally touchable skin. And you will feel totally refreshed and amazing!

Pardon our Absence

April 7, 2010

It has been quite a hectic spring already around here. We want to apologize to all of our loyal readers for our recent absence. Our studio team has been working on completing sessions for our New Bride Sweepstakes and our January Sweepstakes winners. Both sessions were incredible and we were thrilled to meet and work with two fabulous ladies. We have been working on new ideas to share here on the blog for our Set the Mood Monday and Fashion Friday segments and are prepared to bring you a lot of new inspiration over the next few weeks. You can also look forward to learning a bit more about our resident make-up artist and hair stylist Amanda. We will also be highlighting one of our special clients in a Starlet segment. Thanks for bearing with us and stay tuned!

In Like a Lion…Out Like a Lamb

March 8, 2010

For this month’s 5 Senses Set the Mood piece, I have decided to embrace the old adage about March’s weather, “It comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.” So for this month’s boudoir inspiration, get ready to embrace your fierce side and your gentle side all at once.

The Sense of Sight

lionlamb1lionlamb2

Since we are embracing our fierceness this month, why not start as a little lion tamer? This first outfit is courtesy of Trashy.com Lingerie. This outfit is sure to keep your guy’s eyes strictly on you…or else! To increase your ferociousness, definitely add the riding crop accessory and the top hat, to make it known that you are the Queen of the bedroom.

To contrast, of course, this second outfit will definitely show off your calm and gentle side when you are looking for something less edgy and more soft. When trying to convey your soft side, you can never go wrong with white, soft pink accents, and lots of eyelet lace. Nothing is more feminine than Trashy.com‘s Lolita Collection, which this outfit is a part of.

The Sense of Smell

lionlamb3 lionlamb4

The sense of smell is very powerful and playing it up can definitely be helpful when you are trying to set any kind of mood. For this fierce/gentle combination this month, you may want to give your guy a little treat with the Fierce cologne from Abercrombie & Fitch. With it’s mix of citrus and musk scents, this is sure to meet the criteria for a fiery scent.

For yourself, you may want to try something soft and lightly fruit scented, such as Pearberry from Bath & Body Works. This is a delightful mix of pears and berries that will present a soft and sensual scent to complement your ultra-feminine look.

The Sense of Taste

Remember, setting the mood for a special evening with your significant other does not have to begin and end with the bedroom. You can very easily set the mood all day long for a special night. For this particular mood, begin with a steak dinner made at home for your loved one. This is something that the two of you can do together to work on setting the mood. Cooking together can be a very sensual experience, if you are open to it. So pop open a bottle of your favorite wine and get cooking!

lionlamb5

For dessert, think of something like and airy, like meringues. These are easy to make and as light as air. These are even a little sweet goodness that you and your sweetie could feed to one another since they are bite size. Here is a recipe for “Meringue Smooches” on FoodNetwork.com. How romantic do those sound?

The Sense of Hearing

When you are searching for music that might enhance your mood, for this particular combination, you may want to start out with some of your favorite rock songs. Something that gets your blood pumping, something that brings out your inner fierceness.

On the softer side of this you may want to embrace your inner lamb and look for something more sensual and romantic. Something light and easy to listen to in the background. Here are a few ideas…

Angel by Sarah Mclachlan
Here with Me by Dido
Only Time by Enya
Melting by Tristan Prettyman

The Sense of Touch

For the sense of touch you want something bold, maybe try one of these accessories if you are looking for something playful. Even if you have no intention of using it, your guy will likely be impressed (and a little intimidated) when you present it to him.

lionlamb7
Cat of Nine Tails

If that is too bold a statement, you can always find another way to bring fierce into the touch portion of your mood-setting. Leather sheets might bring just the right amount of a bold sensation to your boudoir.

Between the Sheets: The Home of Exotic Bedding

Of course, don’t neglect the more delicate side to this experience. Anything extra fluffy and comfortable will easily portray the gentle, soft lamb-like side of this equation. However, the Heavenly Bed by Westin definitely lives up to its name. This bed and bedding combine to create the most comfortable sleeping environment. It is truly cloud-like. You can purchase the bed and the bedding from Nordstrom.

Happy March to you all! As always, feel free to share your own ideas and inspirations here in the comments. I hope many of you have some fierce boudoir experiences, as well as a few sweet and delicate ones too.

Starlet Session: Mrs. L

February 24, 2010

We had the distinct pleasure of photographing the gorgeous Mrs. L a few months back. She was one of our first sessions at Allure and she was such a treat! Mrs. L came into our home studio in Aberdeen, MD for her session. She has the most wonderful personality that is both fun and sexy and it totally comes through in each of her photos.

MG 6862 Starlet Session: Mrs. L

We had a lot of fun with Mrs. L and she was incredibly easy to work with! With a nice long session, we had plenty of time to let Mrs. L warm up to the camera so that we could capture her true personality in each of her photos. We also had our whole team on board to help Mrs. L get ready for her session. We had our incredible hair stylist, Amanda, our wonderful make-up artist, Sherry, and our fabulous posing coach, Nicole, all here to make sure that Mrs. L looked her best in all of her photos.

Mrs. L wanted an album for her dear hubby for Christmas. They were married last June and she thought this would be a great gift for him for Christmas since she wasn’t able to get them done before their wedding. Needless to say, he loved his gift! And you can see why from the photos below!

Words of Love

February 15, 2010

Officially, Valentine’s Day is over, but you can (and should!) still celebrate your love and relationship each day with your valentine in some way. Today we are going to share some ways to express your love and admiration through words.

Giving a poem to your loved one is a wonderful way to share your thoughts and sentiments any day of the year. However, some of us are not so crafty with the words, but do not fear, you can always borrow from someone else. Just think of it like this…you know when you are looking for a greeting card to give or send and you find the perfect card with the perfect words? A borrowed poem can serve the exact same purpose.

Here are a few classic love poems to get your started.

Sonnet XVII by Pablo Neruda

I don’t love you as if you were the salt-rose, topaz
or arrow of carnations that propagate fire:
I love you as certain dark things are loved,
secretly, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that doesn’t bloom and carries
hidden within itself the light of those flowers,
and thanks to your love, darkly in my body
lives the dense fragrance that rises from the earth.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you simply, without problems or pride:
I love you in this way because I don’t know any other way of loving

but this, in which there is no I or you,
so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand,
so intimate that when I fall asleep it is your eyes that close.

To My Dear Loving Husband by Anne Bradstreet

If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were loved by wife, then thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me, ye woman, if you can.
I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold
Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought but love from thee, give recompense.
Thy love is such I can no way repay,
the heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.
The while we live, in love let’s so persevere,
That when we live no more, we may live ever.

How Do I Love Thee? by Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,–I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!–and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Be creative, have fun, and most importantly, find a way to express your loving feelings with your valentine, any day of the year!

Seeing Red

February 12, 2010

Around here, we are seeing red, as Valentine’s Day is just two days away! As you are preparing the last minute details for your special night, consider that red is the color of love, the whole idea behind this amorous holiday. Before sharing our fashion inspiration for today, I want to share a little more about the color red as it used in color therapy related to psychological and physical uses.

Red…

…is the element of fire
…stimulates and excites nerves and blood
…stimulates sensory nerves
…promotes vitality, strength, and sexuality
…activates blood circulation

(*taken from Holistic-Online)

If you haven’t quite decided on an outfit for this weekend’s special plans, consider the power that the color red can have in creating excitement and fervor. Let your outfit work for you, lay the groundwork, and stir the senses from minute one.

Here is a little bit of fashion inspiration for your evening plans, and then, for your late night plans. These outfits are sure to inspire excitement and allure this Valentine’s Day.

A Complete Chocolate Experience

February 8, 2010

Often when you are trying to set the mood, any mood, you want to entice all five of the senses. When getting ready for Valentine’s Day and preparing to set the mood for your holiday plans, chocolate is probably the first thing that comes to mind. Chocolate seems to be the go-to gift for Valentine’s Day, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, we are going to take it one step further…this is an entire sensual feast of chocolate to make your Valentine’s Day celebration all the sugar and spice you could ever want.

The Sense of Smell

Nothing beats the smell of chocolate, and for some, the scent of chocolate is all you need to jump-start your energy level and make you happy. Here are a few products you might find helpful when trying to hone in on the aroma of chocolate. (click on the image to get product details)

Sound and hearing may not be the first thing that you think of when you think of chocolate, but play a few of these tunes and you are guaranteed to feel at least a little like flowing, melted chocolate.

The Sense of Touch

It is easy to create a chocolate feel in your boudoir. Think of the feel of chocolate..soft, silky, smooth…these are some of the textures you want to incorporate into your chocolate experience.

These sheets would be a good place to start for creating a soft and sensual environment in your bedroom.

You may also want to cover yourself, and your sweetie, in something soft and silky. Something like these pj’s may be just the thing you need to enhance the sense of touch in this whole experience.

The Sense of Taste

This may be the most obvious area of this whole experience. But I challenge you to think of a new way to incorporate the sense of taste into this adventure. Try to think beyond the heart-shaped box of chocolate truffles or bag of chocolate kisses.

Perhaps a little chocolate body paint is just the right amount of spice you need to have some fun with your loved one.

Feeling a little domestic? You can make your own chocolate body paint! Maybe this is something you could do with your significant other before enjoying the fun that would definitely follow.

I hope that this has given you some ideas and inspirations for how to create a holistic event centered around chocolate for your sweetheart on this Valentine’s Day, or any day for that matter! Go ahead, buy your favorite type of chocolate, and savor it while you come up with ways to create your own complete chocolate experience. If you try this, or have any other ideas or inspirations for a chocolate affair, leave a comment, share with the rest of us!

Sugar & Spice…Everything Nice

January 29, 2010

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, I am sure many of you are scouring the lingerie shops looking for that outfit that is just right, the one that will knock your significant others’ socks off. Maybe you are a sexy vixen, or want to play that angle for your Valentine’s Day celebration. Or maybe, you are a little more tame and just want an outfit that is romantic and comfy. That’s what I am bringing to you today. These are a few pieces of inspiration for your sugar-coated, soft, feminine side. We all have that side to us. You know, the side that loves sleeping in something that is actually cute or sexy and comfortable. Don’t believe you can have the best of both worlds? These outfits prove that theory incorrect. You absolutely can have the best of both worlds, besides, it doesn’t really matter what you wear, your sexiness and femininity come from within, not from the outfit you are wearing.

These outfits are so cute and romantic looking. They would be perfect for a breakfast in bed Saturday morning. Or a lazy Saturday afternoon of watching movies in bed. Maybe, this Valentine’s Day, you may want to start your celebration a little early with a nice breakfast in bed complete with one of these soft and light outfits, and finish up your Valentine’s Day evening with something a little more sultry and seductive.

So find an outfit that plays up your soft and sensitive side, like one of these below, and get ready for a morning snuggle with your lovey.

Guy-Friendly Romantic Movies

January 11, 2010

Today we are going to highlight one of the easiest ways to get into a romantic mood. Movies. I know that, personally, a good movie can usually take me away from anything that is going on in my own life and transform my mood. I would like to think that most people are the same way, otherwise, I don’t know how the movie industry would survive! I also know that I am probably not alone among women out there in that I love a feel good movie that leaves me feeling in love and all warm and fuzzy…”the chick flick” as it is affectionately referred to.

Now girls, we all have our favorite so-called “chick flicks” that we would love our men to sit and swoon over with us. But sometimes your guy may need a break from the overly romantic, dramatic, love-filled films that make you melt into a weepy puddle on your couch. So I came across this list of guy-friendly movies that are romantic in their own right, but tread a little more lightly on the tear-jerker, sentimental ideal of romance.

You can check out this list of 16 Romantic Movies that a Guy Won’t Hate.

To enjoy a quiet night in with your man, grab one of these movies, make a big bowl of popcorn to share, grab a blanket to cozy up under together, turn down the lights and enjoy the movie. After the movie, stay snuggled up and talk about the memories the two of you have together. If you just watched one of the comedies on this list, talk about some of the funniest things that have happened to the two of you. The most important thing is that you are spending time together focusing on happy and romantic feelings, and sharing them together.

Next Monday, we will feature our list of favorite romantic movies. I can’t wait to get started on that!
